Environmental Impact Caused By Heating Hard Water

These days most of us try to conserve energy, reduce waste and thus our carbon footprint, and if we can save money at the same time, so much the better! With the Scale Manager 2 this is possible. In a hard water area without the use of Scale Manager 2, heating your water causes limescale build-up which translates into lower heat transfer. The result is the water will take longer to heat, using more energy and costing dearly. Just 6 millimetres of limescale means you can be wasting up to 40% of the energy to heat your water. With Scale Manager 2 installed a saving of around 40% can be made - not only good for your pocket but very good for the environment.

The graph below shows limescale build-up can increase your water heating costs, and through increased use of energy your carbon footprint.

A conservative efficiency loss is shown above. Different minerals have varying insulation properties. The loss can be even higher up to 8% per millimetre

For an example many households with 6 mm of limescale, who use a kettle 5 times a day, and a washing machine 3 times a week would save in excess of £2,000, over a 10 year period on energy savings alone (assuming an inflation rate of 2% per annum).

Reduced use of soaps, detergents and cleaning materials provides enviromental benefits, and with fewer purchases of appliances necessary Scale Manager 2 helps you be kinder to the enviroment and reduce your carbon footprint.
