Heating your water through limescale build-up translates into lower heat transfer. The result is the water will take longer to heat, using more energy and costing dearly - ¼" or 6 mm of limescale means you can be wasting up to 40% of the energy to heat your water. For an example many households with 6 mm of limescale, who use a kettle 5 times a day - 40 gallons of hot water a day, and a washing machine 3 times a week would save in excess of £2,000, over a 10 year period on energy savings alone (assuming an inflation rate of 2% per annum) .
